Founded in 2008 by artistic director Dorian Mallia, Moveo Dance Company is one of Malta’s leading contemporary dance ensembles, with a strong international reputation and deep roots in Maltese cultural identity.

Moveo’s work is known for combining dance and theatre, and for blurring the line between the two. The company has performed at venues including Teatru Manoel, Fort St Elmo, Theater Kreuzberg, Teater Momentum and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and has toured Europe, the United States, India and Kuwait, including a 2018 commission for Black and White at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre. It has taken part in festivals and platforms such as Aerowaves, Masdanza, DINAM and Dissidans.

Its original productions include Frida, My Two Accidents, Carmen, The Other Door, From Malta with Love and Diversely Typical, which have toured internationally to critical acclaim. Moveo has won several Premju għall-Arti honours: Artists of the Year (2018), Best Creative Enterprise (2020 and 2023) and Best Dance Production (2023 and 2025). In 2021, Diversely Typical won the Best STEAM Project Award at the Esplora Interactive Science Centre STEM Awards.

Education and community work are central to the company. Since 2012 Moveo has made productions for young audiences, and it now gives more than 130 performances a year in over 30 schools through Malta’s Culture Pass. Since 2016, Diane Portelli has been co-director alongside Dorian Mallia, guiding the company’s two strands: theatre productions for local and international touring, and Moveo Community Engagement.
